Take-Off Requests & Tools for Estimating Schluter DITRA-Heat

Schluter Territory Managers and Field (Technical) Representatives get asked on a regular basis to look at plans and determine which DITRA-Heat components will be needed to complete a project.  While we are happy to provide educational training, we simply don't have enough time to walk through every request. More-over, there is information we won't readily have at our time of need - and we are removed from the end user usually by a few parties.  Thus Schluter created a very helpful online estimating tool that will walk anyone through the series of questions and ultimately yield the SKUs needed for a successful install.

You can access the DITRA-Heat Online Estimator here.

We would be happy to review the results of the estimator with you to see if any adjustments may need to be considered.

The basics of determining components is that you will need to know two SF measurements.

  • A = the total SF of tile being installed.
  • B = SF area after vanities, tubs, toilets, closets, islands and withholding from walls, heat sources and plumbing has been backed out of figure A.

Larger areas may be heated under one thermostat by linking Power Modules.  You may want to break the larger area down into zones.  Each zone would have its own thermostat - and possibly power modules if the zone exceeds a thermostats 15 amp capacity.  Once each zone has been determined - run that zones figures through the estimator to break down SKUs needed for that zones install.

Thermostats can handle up to 15 amps. Cable amp ratings are located in the far right column of the photo attached below:

  • You can plug multiple cables to a single thermostat or power module as long as their combined amp draw is less than 15.
  • You can daisy chain up to 16 power modules to a single thermostat.
  • Each power module needs its own junction box and direct run to the breaker with a non-GFCI protected breaker. Voltage depends on the wire; both 120 and 240 volt wires are available.

Schematics for thermostats and power modules below.  PLEASE NOTE that the breaker pictured below is just a representation for ease in understanding.  Actual breaker may be different than depicted below depending on the voltage, and will be determined by a licensed electrician.

NEW ADDITIONS to the DITRA-Heat family this year are the PS membranes (Peel and Stick) as well as the new smart thermostat.
