KERDI-SHOWER-CB for KERDI Drain Adapter

Image
If you are familiar with our Schluter KERDI-Drain/KERDI-Line adapters (for tying the KERDI shower system into a pre-installed two stage drain), and you want to use a Schluter Shower Tray , then you know the tray will need to be lifted so that the drain flange will nest properly onto the shower tray recess. This is because the drain body and the adapter are installed over the subfloor rising above the surface enough to inhibit proper flange nesting on the tray. The solution required the installer to source enough 1/2" backer to fully embed beneath the shower tray to lift it enough so that the flange would nest properly. Usually this required two layers of 1/2" beneath the tray. Schluter now offers a 1" thick foam compensation board called KERDI-Shower-CB ( KSCB 25 610 1220 ), which is a 48" x 24". When you purchase this SKU, you get a bundle that includes 6 of these boards at just $27.20 MSRP! This will save time and money when seeking material to lift the sho...

Adapting to an existing 2-stage drain with KDAR

There are a number of reasons why you may want to consider using the KERDI-Drain Adapter, or KDAR (KERDI Drain Adapter Ring).  (1) You want the assurance that the plumbing connection was completed by a licensed and insured plumber - peace of mind. (2) You have a shower remodel and would like to work with the existing drain connection.  No problem. A two stage drain will be secured over the surface of the subfloor (concrete or wood).  Concrete box outs may allow the drain to be nestled just below the height of the rest of the floor as you may be able to custom float to the height you want.   Wood, on the other hand, is set.  When using a Schluter TT (Thin Tray) you will need to lift the height of the tray to offset the height of the drain body and drain adapter.  This can be done with compensation boards such as 1/2” tile backers, scrap floor rated OSB, drywall or KERDI-board (easiest to work with).  I recommend KERDI-Board or cement backer when lifting...
