Though it is possible to go from a KERDI-Line tileable grate to a KERDI-Line metal framed grate, it is advised to proceed with caution . Moving from to the tileable grate to the metal framed grate introduces the possibility of compromising (degrading) the KERDI waterproofing connection between the channel body with pre-attached KERDI and the shower floor. Moving from tileable grate to metal framed grate will require precision cutting of the installed tile around the channel body to accommodate the metal frame of the metal grate assembly. Reference the photo below. Manually hand cutting floor tile to move from the tileable grate to the metal frame grate will also introduce the likelihood of chipping the surrounding tile from using a handheld cutter. If you choose to move forward, you will need to take the frame of the metal frame grate and flip it upside down over the existing tileable grate.
