DIV22 | Installing KERDI-Line Channel Body
Schluter Systems KERDI-Line is our flagship line drain. This drain has a stainless-steel channel body (plumbing connection) that utilizes a rubber Fernco coupler to attach to the plumbing (ABS/PVS/Cast Iron).
CHOOSING CORRECT SIZE
Because this drain is steel, it cannot be cut nor extended physically or mechanically. This link will help in determining which size channel body will best fit your project dimensions.
INSTALLATION by DIV22
Though the tile contractor has the ability to make the plumbing connection (mostly remodel and residential applications), typically it is the mechanical contractor or plumber that is licensed and insured to make this connection in the commercial world.
Because DIV22 companies do not use thinset mortar (as a tile contractor does), there is a way for the channel body to be installed without mortar.
To see Schluter Systems official video regarding this connection, please click here. The first 3 minutes and 20 seconds show how to do this with the use of KERDI-Fix or 'like' adhesive. It is important to have the channel bodies 'locked in' with either thinset mortar or KERDI-Fix adhesive to prevent movement of the drain after the shower has been placed in service.

Please note: If KERDI-Fix is not available:

Use KERDI-Fix or like adhesive around the shape of the foam support (ships in box with the stainless-steel channel body).
Press the foam support with the KERDI-Fix onto the underside of the stainless-steel channel body.
Add KERDI-Fix to the underside of the foam support after it has been pressed into the stainless-steel channel body.
Press the channel body into the properly prepared substrate. Before adding KERDI-Fix to the foam support or pressing both into the substrate, make sure that the ABS/PVC stems are cut appropriately to receive the channel body. Do all dry-fitting first. Substrate needs to be clean and free from all bond breakers (dust, oil and debris).
