Re: Incorporating RodKat Shower Trays with the Schluter®-Shower System


Mr. Katwyk:


This letter is to confirm that the RodKat shower trays can be used in conjunction with the Schluter®-Shower System when installed in accordance with the Schluter®-Shower System Installation Handbook. Schluter Systems requires a minimum shower tray density of 2.75 lb/ft3 (44.0 Kg/m3).


The RodKat shower trays shall be covered with Schluter®-KERDI or Schluter®-KERDI-DS membrane. Schluter Systems is not responsible for workmanship of the waterproofing and is not responsible for the suitably or performance of RodKat shower trays or alike products or connections. For details on the suitability of the Schluter®-KERDI or Schluter®-KERDI-DS waterproofing membrane, refer to the Schluter®-Shower System Installation Handbook. All other aspects of the Schluter®-Shower System including, but not limited to, the performance of Schluter®-KERDI and Schluter®-KERDI-DS, will be covered under standard Schluter® warranty policy in accordance with the Schluter®-Warranty Program.


It is the responsibility of the owner, builder, and/or installer to ensure the suitability of all building materials and all associated building materials for the owner’s intended use.

KERDI-SHOWER-CB for KERDI Drain Adapter

If you are familiar with our Schluter KERDI-Drain/KERDI-Line adapters (for tying the KERDI shower system into a pre-installed two stage drain), and you want to use a Schluter Shower Tray , then you know the tray will need to be lifted so that the drain flange will nest properly onto the shower tray recess. This is because the drain body and the adapter are installed over the subfloor rising above the surface enough to inhibit proper flange nesting on the tray. The solution required the installer to source enough 1/2" backer to fully embed beneath the shower tray to lift it enough so that the flange would nest properly. Usually this required two layers of 1/2" beneath the tray. Schluter now offers a 1" thick foam compensation board called KERDI-Shower-CB ( KSCB 25 610 1220 ), which is a 48" x 24". DITRA-Heat in Shower | Detail & Tray Adjustments

Installing DITRA-Heat in a shower increases the floor assembly height by the thickness of the membrane used; 1/4” for DITRA-Heat membrane and 5/16” for DITRA-Heat DUO membrane. DH-SH-23 is the detail taken from the DITRA-Heat installation handbook with critical information for installing DITRA-Heat in a shower application. Photos of the detail are included below. When Using Schluter Shower Trays Remove the center break-out section of the tray that supports the drain flange, highlighted in green below. Use the break-out as a template to cut a ring out of the DITRA-Heat membrane that you are using.  Install the DITRA-Heat membrane underneath the break-out support to lift the flange assembly up to meet the DITRA-Heat membrane that will be installed over the shower tray as shown below.   KERDI waterproofing membrane must be installed over the wire in the shower floor so that the sealed waterproof envelope is over the whole assembly.
