RE: Tile Assembly Installations with Schluter®-DITRA® or Schluter®-DITRA-XL ™ over Warmboard-S or Warmboard-R


To Whom It May Concern:


I am writing to inform you that tile assembly installations with Schluter®-DITRA® or Schluter®-DITRA-XL ™ over Warmboard-S and Warmboard-R meeting the installation requirements described herein will qualify for the Schluter®-DITRA® and Schluter®-DITRA-XL ™ Uncoupling Membrane 10-Year Limited Warranty.


A proper installation of ceramic tile using Schluter®-DITRA® or Schluter®-DITRA-

XL ™ over Warmboard-S or Warmboard-R requires the following:

  • Schluter®-PRIMER-U and Schluter ALL-SET® to install Schluter®-DITRA® or Schluter®-DITRA-XL ™ over Warmboard-S or Warmboard-R panels
  • Schluter ALL-SET® to install appropriate tiles over Schluter®-DITRA® or Schluter®-DITRA-XL ™ uncoupling membrane

Please contact Schluter Systems for details about installation of stone tile using Schluter®-DITRA® or Schluter®-DITRA-XL ™ over Warmboard-S or Warmboard-R.


Installation Instructions


Follow all Schluter installation instructions for the products mentioned above. Please see the Schluter®-DITRA Installation Handbook, Schluter®-PRIMER-U technical data sheet, and Schluter ALL-SET® technical data sheet for product information and installation instructions.

Warranty


If the Schluter products are properly installed over Warmboard-S or Warmboard-R as described herein, they will qualify under the Schluter warranty program. Please see the Schluter®-DITRA Installation Handbook for complete warranty information.

Warmboard-S


It is a 1 1/8” thick radiant panel that provides unmatched response, energy efficiency and comfort. The thickness of the 7-ply plywood panel also means you can install it as a structural subfloor. Yes – the same labor, skills and tools used to install a subfloor can be used to install Warmboard-S. As these radiant heating panels are installed, the modular channel pattern automatically produces the tubing layout, a process that takes much more time with other radiant systems. Roll the ½” tubing into the stamped pattern and attach to the hydronic circuit. This smooth process saves you money throughout your construction process.



Warmboard-R

It is a 13/16” thick radiant panel that provides unmatched response, energy efficiency and comfort. Warmboard-R panels measure 2’x4’, and are ideal for installing over existing subfloor or slab. They are also used regularly in wall and ceiling installations. As the retrofit hydronic radiant floor heating panels are installed, the modular channel pattern automatically produces the tubing layout, a process that takes much more time with other radiant systems. Roll out the ½” PEX (Aluminum PEX) tubing into the stamped pattern and attach to the hydronic circuit. This smooth process saves you money throughout your construction process.

KERDI-SHOWER-CB for KERDI Drain Adapter

If you are familiar with our Schluter KERDI-Drain/KERDI-Line adapters (for tying the KERDI shower system into a pre-installed two stage drain), and you want to use a Schluter Shower Tray , then you know the tray will need to be lifted so that the drain flange will nest properly onto the shower tray recess. This is because the drain body and the adapter are installed over the subfloor rising above the surface enough to inhibit proper flange nesting on the tray. The solution required the installer to source enough 1/2" backer to fully embed beneath the shower tray to lift it enough so that the flange would nest properly. Usually this required two layers of 1/2" beneath the tray. Schluter now offers a 1" thick foam compensation board called KERDI-Shower-CB ( KSCB 25 610 1220 ), which is a 48" x 24". DITRA-Heat in Shower | Detail & Tray Adjustments

Installing DITRA-Heat in a shower increases the floor assembly height by the thickness of the membrane used; 1/4” for DITRA-Heat membrane and 5/16” for DITRA-Heat DUO membrane. DH-SH-23 is the detail taken from the DITRA-Heat installation handbook with critical information for installing DITRA-Heat in a shower application. Photos of the detail are included below. When Using Schluter Shower Trays Remove the center break-out section of the tray that supports the drain flange, highlighted in green below. Use the break-out as a template to cut a ring out of the DITRA-Heat membrane that you are using.  Install the DITRA-Heat membrane underneath the break-out support to lift the flange assembly up to meet the DITRA-Heat membrane that will be installed over the shower tray as shown below.   KERDI waterproofing membrane must be installed over the wire in the shower floor so that the sealed waterproof envelope is over the whole assembly.
